-Two strapping young lads are racing down the road on their bikes, standing a bit off the seat and swaying as they make the pedals rotate. They are lightly huffing as they have been riding for some time. One of them notices a large sign and with a large smile points towards it. The other nods and both now glide into the drive the fixture was pointing out. They hop off their bikes and take a moment to lock them to a post outside of a large building. The shot follows them as they enter, but it remains behind a moment as sliding doors shut behind them revealing this place is a hospital.
They quizzically look around, and while both of them have been inside a hospital before, the wave of excitement getting this far is making them a bit anxious. They notice the reception counter and wait in a small line for their turn, yet these few moments are already feeling like an eternity. They had rehearsed what they were going to say, but it was still a gambit. Could they pull it off? Are they even in the right place? These thoughts danced in their imagination as the queue shortened.
Then the last person in front of them moved off to the side with a thank you, and it was then their turn. They moved up slowly to the desk though they wanted to both sprint towards it and ask ten thousand questions all at once. Yet despite these boys apparent young age, they were professionals and instead waiting on the receptionist to address them first. -
"May I help you?"
-One of the boys speak. He tells the man behind the counter he's here to see his father. Now, of course, this was the plan as neither of these boys father was injured. They tell the man the name they are looking for and the receptionist then starts clacking away at their keyboard. After a few minutes the man looks at the boys a bit puzzled.-
"There's no one here by that name."
-The boys grow pale in the face. What in the lord's name was going on here? They were positive this way the place they needed to be. They ask him to recheck, and the man does, but again says there was no patient there. The one asks when he was discharged, and the man, looking again starts to reply.-
"Two mont---"
-He stops himself short sensing something amiss. Before the kids could protest or even inquire further, the receptionist asks them to leave. They do so a bit dejectedly, not even offering up further protest. When they get outside they simply sit on the curb of the sidewalk chins in their palms. One of them speaks up after a bit. -
"Well that seems like it was a big waste of time."
"I guess so...but wait a minute. They did say the guy was discharged. Maybe we should go to their last known address."
"I mean we can, buy if we were hired to figure this all out, I don't think it's going to be that easy."
"Well it's all we have left. "
